How It All Began
In 1993, Dr. Syed A. Samad recognized a critical gap in southeastern Arkansas: patients with digestive conditions were traveling hours to receive specialized gastroenterology care. Determined to change that, he established Digestive Care in Pine Bluff with a single mission — to bring expert, compassionate GI care directly to the communities that needed it most.
What began as a one-physician practice in a small office has grown into one of Arkansas’s most trusted gastroenterology groups. Over 32 years, the practice has expanded to three locations, built its own Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and assembled a team of board-certified gastroenterologists and advanced practice providers.

Dr. Syed A. Samad is the founder and medical director of Digestive Care, bringing over 32 years of specialized expertise in gastroenterology and hepatology to patients across Arkansas. Trained at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Samad has dedicated his career to delivering compassionate, evidence-based digestive healthcare close to home.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Samad has performed thousands of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, treated complex liver diseases, and championed early colorectal cancer detection. He is widely respected for his thorough approach, his ability to explain complex conditions in plain language, and his commitment to long-term patient relationships.
